Friday Aug 24. Dearest Mother. I'm safely arrived and am going to stay at 71 tonight, for it's such a grind going on to York. I was driven out of Montanvert [Montenvers] by heavy rain - it was very sad, however here I am and very glad to think I shall see my Belloved family tomorrow. I'm writing this in the train 'cause I have one or two things to do in Sloane St when I arrive and I shall be rather busy.
I'm going to dine with a young man - he's a perfect dear, a climbing friend. We dine at Prince's - to meet another climber! Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude

I picked up the young man casual in Paris.

[Note on back of envelope] I think I shall stay till 2.30 so as not to be so rushed. Will dine on train.
