Aug 18. Red Barns, Coatham, Redcar. Dearest Mother. You do seem to have had a delightful time! I'm so glad it was such a success. I hope Ratisbon [Regensburg] will be fun too. My headquarters will be Hotel Schönegg, Grindelwald, if I move from there I'll let you know. But I think Grindelwald seems fine and central and I shall probably come and go on it. Today is bright and fine, we have been sitting out in the garden and Caroline and I have photographed. Aunt Bessie seems perfectly well again - you know she has been suffering from heart disease the last 3 days? Yesterday it threatened to carry her off. I think it was probably indigestion. The weather was terribly depressing for her, it has been so cold and rainy. It is quite charming having Caroline; we sat up talking till 1.30 last night - after having talked most of the day! but we don't seem to have exhausted every topic even so.
I am sending Moll her Bethlehem [(Beit Lahm)] headdress and my Roumanian gown - I hope she will manage to make something of them. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude
