Dearest Mother. I haven't the least idea where you are but I have sent the first volume of Pattison to Sloane St. Would you like the 2nd too, or shall I bring it with me to Rounton? I am coming on Monday, how long are you going to stay in London? I wish I were with you!
It's so bitter cold here, we have fires in all the rooms. In the mornings Horace reads and so do I, in the conservatory generally. In the afternoon there are tennis parties which are rather a bore I think. I've strained my arm besides and can't play.

You know I am going to stay with the Talbots on our way to France. I thought I might go south a few days earlier than you and join you in London afterwards. As soon as I know your plans definitely I will write to them and arrange about it. Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude.
