Saturday. 90 Sloane Street. Dearest Father. Elsa really is better. She was very keen to go to the Pop but I thought that wd be rather mad and dissuaded her. Beatrice Chamberlain was very agreeable. We went after lunch to the National Gallery which was most pleasant. She is also dining with the Creightons tonight. Elsa and I have been discussing all tea time what we should do if our Father married someone our own age! I think there must have been a terrible moment for the daughters and I'm not sure that Mrs Chamberlain wasn't a good deal to be pitied. However they are all so nice and so sensible that they have managed things wonderfully well.
Think of Lord Crewe, too, who is marrying a girl just the age of his daughter who has just come out! Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude.
